MOVIN’ ON UP
After winning two tough road games this past weekend, the Pride made a big jump in this week’s RichKern.com/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I Regional Computer Index. The Pride moved up to No. 6 in the East Region (behind Maryland, Duke, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Winthrop), while moving up 16 spots in the overall rankings to No. 75. The No. 6 ranking is a stark improvement, as the Pride had earlier been ranked No. 9 behind conference rival William & Mary.
BIG WEEKEND AHEAD
The Pride will put its current 10-match win streak-the longest in five years-on the line this weekend when the team hosts its final two regular season matches. Tomorrow, the Pride will host defending CAA Champion Towson University and will then celebrate Senior Day on Sunday in a battle with rival Delaware. Seniors Jessica Levy and Tessa Sphar will be honored before the match, which is to commence at 1 p.m.
OGOSHI HONORED
For the second time this season, the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) named Pride sophomore setter Shellane Ogoshi the conference Player of the Week. The award comes two days after Ogoshi was an integral part in the Pride’s two consecutive five-game match wins over William & Mary and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Ogoshi recorded 60 assists and 25 digs against the Tribe on Oct. 28, and followed up that excellent performance with yet another double double (60 assists, 19 digs against VCU). Her 19 double doubles leads the team. Not particularly known for her defense, Ogoshi averaged an excellent .429 hitting percentage for the two games including a perfect 1.000 percentage against VCU.
Ogoshi is clearly not suffering from a sophomore slump, as she leads the team with 934 assists and is second with 342 digs.
