MEN’S X-COUNTRY
The Pride finished sixth behind sophomore Rudy Martinez’s 16th place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Cross Country Championship this past weekend. William & Mary took home its sixth consecutive team CAA Championship by placing six runners in the top 10, including individual champion sophomore Ian Fitzgerald. James Madison placed runners in both the second and third positions to finish second for the sixth straight year. Martinez finished 1:05 behind the leader with a time of 25:36.82, breaking his own school record for an 8k race. His 16th place finish was also the highest finish by a cross country runner in school history. Senior Adam Morrison was the Pride’s next best finisher at 46th overall, while freshman Jon Truitt and sophomore Steve Santore finished 55th and 57th, respectively.
WOMEN’S X-COUNTRY
Star freshman Mary Sullivan continued to shine for the Pride, finishing second overall at the CAA Championships at UNC Wilmington, earning all-conference honors. Sullivan finished just seven seconds behind the winner to lead the Pride to a tie for fifth place. Sullivan’s time of 21:11.82 was the Pride’s best ever finish at the CAA Championships. Sullivan is by far one of the most talented athletes this University has ever seen. James Madison University senior Shannon Saunders won her second consecutive individual championship to lead her school to a second place finish. William & Mary captured its third straight CAA team Championship by placing six runners in the top 12 spots.
MEN’S TENNIS
Senior Nikola Djordjevic won his third career singles title this past weekend at the Cornell University Invitational. Djordjevic, the Pride’s number one singles player, won four matches en route to the championship. He defeated Peter Kung of Cornell 6-4, 6-3 in the finals. The Pride’s next best finish was an appearance in the quarterfinals by sophomore Andy Cha, who defeated Boston University’s Tim Sichler in the opening round. This is Djordjevic’s first championship since the UConn Invitational in 2003. The Pride will not compete again until March.
