Get out those old cell phones that are sitting in a drawer collecting dust, because they might be worth some money.
A Web site called, “Cash My Phone” assists people in recycling their old phone models. Who knew recycling could be so profitable?
According to a press release about the Cash My Phone Web site, an old cell can be worth up to $300. As long as the phone can still receive and make calls, it is eligible for recycling. The site averages approximately 900 visitors on a daily basis and has over 10,000 members.
There is a quick and easy three-step process involved to receive cash for an old phone. The first step is to collect any old phones in hibernation. After logging into the site, choose which phones are being recycled by manufacturer and model. The site will then give the estimated price.
Then, just mail the phones to the address posted on the Web site and, as soon as Cash My Phone receives the old phone, verifies ownership and functionality, the money for the old phone will be sent back to the owner.
In a study done by Inform, an independent research organization, it was estimated that, in 2005, there will be about 200 million cell phones in use around the U.S. and approximately 500 million waiting to be disposed.
Some other sites that offer cash in return for phones are OldCellPhones.com and CellforCash.com.
If money is not the main incentive to recycle an old cell phone, then there are charities and sites that take donations.
For instance, the Wireless Foundation gives old phones to domestic violence victims. Another site is Collectivegood.com, which lists over 200 charities to choose from to donate an old phone.
So take those old cell phones out of storage and put them to good use.
