MEN’S X-COUNTRYRudy Martinez led the Pride to a second place finish at the Big Obowski Invitational at Sherwood Park in Connecticut this weekend, as he captured his second consecutive individual championship with a time of 19:59. The Pride finished just behind Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) in the 6,000-meter race. SCSU placed five runners in the top eight positions. The Pride also held positions 11 through 14. Senior Adam Morrison finished No. 11 with a time of 21:21. He was closely followed by sophomore Leban Kemoi and freshmen Mark Walters and Jon Truitt. Sophomores Colin LaBrie and Greg Kleehammer finished No. 16 and 26, respectively. The Pride will next compete at the CTC Championship on Oct. 22.
WOMEN’S X-COUNTRYFreshman Mary Sullivan continued her hot start this weekend as she captured her astounding fourth individual championship, leading the Pride to the team championship at the Big Obowski Invitational. Sullivan ran the 4,000-meter race in a time of 14:57 to beat out senior teammate Maggie DeVito by 1:46. Freshman Cat Brew finished third and sophomore Amanda Edell was right behind her to finish fourth in the race. Kaity McCabe also put forth an outstanding effort to finish sixth. The whole team was on its game as the Pride’s lowest finish was No. 34. The Pride will be back in action next weekend at the CTC Championships.
MEN’S GOLFThe Pride was scheduled to host its own invitational this past weekend, but the tournament was a wash. Eight men’s teams from around the region were scheduled to participate, but the match had to be canceled due to heavy rains and flooding. The Pride is looking to reschedule the match for the weekend of Nov. 4 and 5. The Pride will travel to Kitty Hawk, N.C. to compete in the Old Dominion Invitational on Oct. 31.
WOMEN’S GOLFHeavy rains and flooding also caused the cancellation of the Lady Pride Invitational this past weekend. Many of the six teams scheduled to compete in the match have agreed to reschedule the match for Nov. 4 and 5 at Bethpage. The Pride return to action this weekend when it travels to Falmouth, Mass., to compete in the ECAC Division I Women’s Golf Championship.
