Homecoming weekend was full of fantastic events and celebrations, kicking off with a Board- Game-themed parade filled with childhood nostalgia. The weekend ended with a winning game against University of Maine. During halftime, the University continued its tradition of naming a homecoming king and queen. This year the student body voted for Alex Strum and Jenny Beaudry. The Chronicle sat down with the winners to learn about their ascents to the throne.
Chronicle: Why did you run?
Alex Strum: I wanted to represent the University as well as my fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
Jenny Beaudry: I spent the past four years expanding my horizons at the University and getting extremely involved in many activities. Running for homecoming queen would be a great culmination to my college experience. Chronicle: How does it feel to be homecoming king/queen?
Strum: To actually hear my name being called while out on the field was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. The entire stadium was cheering for me and it was such an incredible moment. Being named homecoming king was one of my most memorable experiences here at the University.Beaudry: I’ve wanted to be homecoming queen since freshman year. Now it’s all so surreal and at the same time overwhelming. It puts things into perspective right before I graduate. I’ve gained so much support here and can’t be happier.Chronicle: Why do you feel you best represent the University?
Strum: I best represent the University because I’m versatile and spirited. I’m involved while maintaining a strong academic record.
Beaudry: My main college objective was to make sure I didn’t fall into one category or one group so I got involved in many different things. I put myself out there and tried to meet and work with all kinds of people, anywhere I could offer my help and support. Anyone who can balance that is a good representative of the University.
Chronicle: How do you feel about sharing the title of homecoming king and queen together?
Strum: I’ve known Jenny since my freshman year, she couldn’t be more deserving of homecoming queen. She’s worked so hard over the past four years and I’m honored to stand alongside of her.
Beaudry: It’s bizarre since I’ve known Alex for so long. We’ve seen each other evolve into leaders and he has grown into such an amazing individual. I’m so proud of him.
