MEN’S X-COUNTRY
Although inactive this past week, the Pride has been focused as it prepares for the Fairfield University Dual Meet on Saturday. The Pride will look to build off an outstanding performance at the Fairfield Invitational on Oct. 1. Sophomores Rudy Martinez and Steve Santore provided a 1-2 finish as the Pride captured the team championship, and freshmen Mark Walters and Jon Truit finished in fifth and eighth, respectively. Martinez’s effort was recognized on Oct. 4 as he was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) runner of the week.
WOMEN’S X-COUNTRY
Freshman Mary Sullivan continues to be the buzz of the ECAC, named the conference’s runner of the week for the third time in four weeks on Oct. 4, as she led the Pride to a second place finish at the Fairfield Invitational on Oct. 1. Sullivan became the first women’s cross country runner in school history to break the 18-minute mark as she finished first overall with a time of 17:58.1. Sacred Heart University edged out the Pride by just seven points for the team championship. The Pride will be back in action on Oct. 15, also at the Fairfield University Dual Meet.
MEN’S GOLF
The Pride finished fifth at the ECAC Division I Championship on Oct. 1 at the Tunxis Plantation in Farmington, Conn. The team was led by freshman Jason Melser, who had a two day total of 144 to finish 11, and sophomore Blake Gianniny, who shot a 146 finished 15. The Pride finished with a team score of 590 after shooting an opening day 299, followed by a 291 on the final day of competition.
Monmouth University, led by overall leader Anthony Campinile, won the team championship. The Pride will play again this weekend as it hosts the University Invitational.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Although the Don Mershon was a wash, the Pride continues to work hard as it prepares for the University Invitational as well. The Pride will look to build off its eighth place finish at the Mount Holyoke Invitational back in September.
MEN’S TENNIS
In a match that was squeezed in between the rain on Oct. 7, the Pride dropped its opener to Stony Brook University, 6-1. The Seawolves narrowly earned the doubles point with both the first and third doubles matches going into extra frames, with each team taking a match by the score of 9-7. Sophomores Andy Cha and Adriano Salucci won the third doubles match for the Pride but the team lost the doubles point, as the Seawolves won the second doubles 8-2. The Pride was scheduled to play against Monmouth University and Sacred Heart University on Saturday, but was rained out. The Pride will travel to Newport News, Va. next weekend to play in the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
The Pride was focused and ready to open its season this past weekend at Stony Brook but was also rained out. The team was slated to take on Stony Brook on Saturday and then Providence College and Sacred Heart on Sunday, until these matches were washed out as well. The Pride will now open its season next weekend at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational.
