To the Editor:
In response to the November [3] CHRONICLE op-ed piece by Alyssa O’Brien, I want to clarify that President Rabinowitz and I are thankful that Alyssa brought the issue of internship transportation costs to our attention during our Office Hours meeting with her on October 27. In addition, we want to let your readers know that immediately after Alyssa met with the President and me, we asked two senior administrators – Marc Oppenheim in The Herbert School of Communication and Gary Miller in the Career Center – to look carefully at Alyssa’s recommendation, to meet with her, and to strategize about possible ways to address this growing challenge. As we made clear to Alyssa as she left the meeting and in a follow-up e-mail, our desire is for positive change to come from this productive collaboration. If there are other students who share an interest in this topic, both Marc and Gary would welcome their input and ideas, along with Alyssa’s.
