MEN’S CROSS COUNTRYC.W. Moran of James Madison University (JMU) was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) runner of the week. The junior led JMU to a first place finish at the JMU Invitational, an event that the Dukes hosted. Moran finished 18 seconds in front of teammate Allan Carr in the 7,900-meter race.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRYThe University of Delaware fell short of winning its own invitational tournament as the Blue Hens finished second behind the University of Pennsylvania. Delaware was led again by Colleen O’Brien, who had a fourth place finish in the Women’s 5K run. In the JMU Invitational, the Dukes also won the women’s races. The Lady Dukes were led by Shannon Saunders, who won the 5,100 meter run, almost 20 seconds in front of second place runner Elizabeth Maloy of Georgetown University.
FIELD HOCKEYNortheastern University is on top of the field hockey standings, a full game ahead of the Pride. The Huskies are being led by sophomore forward Ashley Webber, who was named Co-CAA Player of the Week.The Huskies are also led by CAA Rookie of the Week Colleen Duffy. The freshman net minder posted back-to-back seven-save outings in victories against BU and Princeton. The other co-CAA Player of the Week was Janelle Engle of Old Dominion University (ODU) The senior back had a goal and assist in ODU’s upset of No. 4 Duke University.WOMEN’S GOLFThe Georgia State University women’s golf team posted a 13-stroke victory against the University of Kentucky in the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup.
MEN’S SOCCERNo. 18 ODU upset No. 4 Virginia, 3-0, on Sept. 21. The Monarchs were led by senior forward Brian Cvilikas, who scored two goals while ODU goalkeeper John Connelly assisted on one of them. Connelly and sophomore Yomby William combined on the seven-save shutout.Sam Leger of UNC Wilmington won the Brine CAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week award.
WOMEN’S SOCCEROld Dominion is on top of the conference with the help of a 5-1 win over Wyoming. ODU is currently on a four-game winning streak, which also included wins over Liberty, William & Mary and Elon. Drexel goalkeeper Kaitlin Bond won the Brine CAA Rookie of the Week award by leading the Dragons to shutout victories over Manhattan College and Temple University.
WOMEN’S V-BALLTowson University CAA Rookie of the Week Alison Essink helped lead the Tigers to an undefeated week with wins over Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and William & Mary. Essink produced 14 digs against VCU and 20 digs against William & Mary. Towson had its 12-match win streak stopped by Pepperdine, but the Tigers are starting a new streak which has reached three straight with wins coming against Saint Francis (NY), Canisius and UPenn.
