MALONE HONORED
Freshman midfielder Edel Malone was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, the league offices announced on Monday. Malone tallied two assists in the Pride’s only game last week, a 3-0 win over Northeastern University in its CAA opener.
Over her last three games, Malone has tallied three goals and three assists to move into second place on the Pride with 10 points on the season (three goals, four assists). She also currently leads the conference in assists per game (0.5).
ARNONE REACHES MILESTONE
Chrissy Arnone became part of the Pride in her freshman year as a walk on and saw hardly any playing time in her first two seasons, scoring just one goal.
Last season as a junior, Arnone scored eight goals and had four assists as a starting outside midfielder in all of the Pride’s 19 games. She also gave an astonishing performance in a 6-1 win over Drexel, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes.
Arnone scored her sixth goal of this season on Saturday. She now has 15 goals in her career, which ties Heather Kain for eighth all-time on the Pride’s career goal list.
WACHSBERGER TOO
With the Pride’s 3-0 victory over Northeastern, senior goalkeeper Becky Wachsberger added the twenty-eighth shutout of her career. This is Wachsberger’s fifth season as part of the Pride, and in the summer of 2003, she became part of the Irish National Team. Wachsberger extended her career record to 44-16-6.
RUN ‘N’ GUN
With the win over Northeastern, the Pride extended its season-high winning streak to four games. The team has outscored its opponents, 19-3, during the streak as opposed to the two goals that it scored in its first four games. The Blue and Gold has motivated its offense and hopefully it will continue to stay that way as the team hosts its conference home opener tomorrow against Drexel University.
