KEY TO SUCCESSIf the Pride is going to make the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament for a second straight season, then junior midfielder Kara McEneaney will need to have another big season. Combining with teammate Doni-Melissa Jantzen, the two provide a tough attack. McEneaney earned second-team Mid-East Region All-American after leading the Pride in scoring with 24 points on eight goals and a team-leading eight assists. McEneaney is already nearly halfway to her season point total of last year with 11 points on three goals and a team-high five assists.
“She’s a very dangerous threat in the attack from the midfield. She has a vital role. She’s one of our two corner strikers,” head coach Kathy DeAngelis said.
If McEneaney can keep up her solid play, the Pride has the potential to go very far.
ORANGE CRUSH-EDSunday’s 2-0 shut-out of Syracuse was the Pride’s first shut-out in eight games this season. The Pride had six shut-outs last season against Rhode Island, Columbia, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Drexel and William & Mary.
UP NEXTThe Pride returns home for the first time since Sept. 4, when it begins conference play on Sunday against the University of Delaware. The Blue Hens return nine starters from last year’s team that beat the Pride, 3-2, in the regular season and 5-1 in the CAA Championship game. Delaware was picked to finish third in the pre-season CAA coaches poll while the Pride was picked to finish sixth in the nine-team league. Delaware stands at 5-3 and faces Temple tomorrow before taking on the Pride. The Blue Hens are led by Amanda Warrington’s six goals and goalie Megan Allen’s 2.56 goals-against average. Pride junior goalie Jessica Cowperthwait is from Wilmington, DE, and knows many of the players on the Blue Hens.
“If we can keep momentum in conference games, we can come out on top,” she said.
