The Pride beat longtime rival Delaware, 2-1, on Friday. Delaware struck 1:30 into the first half.
However, the Pride quickly answered back with a goal at the 19 minute mark by senior forward Elyse Bizzozzaro. Bizzozzaro, who tallied her third goal of the season on the play, received the ball off of a cross from junior midfielder Nina Nanavrakis.
Although the Blue Hens dominated most of the second half, it was senior midfielder Emma Kilduff who stole their fire with a 25-yard direct kick that just caught the inside of the net, putting the Pride ahead 2-1 with 15 minutes of play remaining. In that time, Delaware created some quality scoring opportunities, but could never tie up the score, thanks to fantastic play by senior goalie Becky Wachsberger.
Within the last 10 minutes of play, Wachsberger made two diving saves and even took on an unguarded Delaware player who had snuck past the Pride defense. With this win, the Pride improves its Colonial Athletic Association record to 2-1 and its overall season record to 8-3-1. The team’s next match will be a home game on Sunday against Towson University.
