The distant roll of drums and melody of flutes echoed behind the 100,000 freshly bloomed tulips around campus that were just in time for the celebration of the 22nd Annual Dutch Festival on Sunday.
Hundreds of attendees, some dressed in traditional Dutch garb, walked away with smiles and full bellies after enjoying live entertainment and shopping.
The Dutch Festival gives the Long Island and University communities the opportunity to learn about Dutch culture.
“I think it’s great that Hofstra celebrates Dutch heritage,” said Kaitlin Maze, a freshmen international business major. “It brings people from the community in to enjoy our beautiful space and the Dutch Heritage.”
Booths selling plants, funnel cakes and Dutch products lined the south side of campus. Children kept entertained with a magician while the adults enjoyed live music.
“The Dutch Festival brings a different culture here which is really nice,” said Alberta Ostling, a senior art education major. “I know that I personally don’t know much about the Dutch culture, so this gives me and hopefully other people the opportunity to learn more about it.”
