In hopes of ending their three-game losing streak, the Hofstra Pride women’s lacrosse team took a break from CAA play and traveled to Stony Brook to take on the Seawolves. Unfortunately for them, it was more of the same as they were mercilessly handed their fourth-straight loss with a score of 16-5.

The beginning of the first half saw both teams go back and forth on offense. After the Seawolves scored the first goal of the game, Lindsay Scott tallied her 48th goal of the season to tie the game at one.

Stony Brook would go out front again and lead by two goals before Lexi Lenaghan responded for Hofstra with her 16th of the season to bring them to within one point at 3-2.

Following a three-goal outburst by the Seawolves, Scott and Drew Shapiro answered with two consecutive goals, and the first half ended with a score of 7-4.

In the second half Stony Brook took complete control of the game. The Seawolves wasted no time picking up where they left off, scoring just 20 seconds in. That was just be the beginning, as Stony Brook netted eight consecutive goals after that.

Just as the Hofstra defense was struggling to stop Stony Brook’s offense, the offense was struggling to tally another goal. Tiana Parrella’s seventh goal of the season with a little under two minutes left to go in the game was all the offense the Pride would account for as they fell to Stony Brook 16-5.

Several statistical categories plagued the Pride throughout the game. Turnovers, for example, were a problem for Hofstra. They turned the ball over five times in the first half, and that number increased in the second half to seven.

Another statistic that didn’t favor the Pride were shots on goal. In the first half, Hofstra was able to keep pace with Stony Brook, shooting it on net seven times compared to the Seawolves’ 10. However, the shots on goal took a dramatic drop for Hofstra with only two shots on goal while the number increased for Stony Brook to 15 in the second half.
