The University has officially cancelled all classes after 6 p.m., a statement on Hofstra’s Web site said Thursday.
The statement, which came after heavy snow reached Long Island around 5 p.m., did not say whether classes would be cancelled on Friday.
The storm is expected to bring up to 5-8 inches of snow overnight in some parts of Long Island, said the National Weather Service and will taper off before 4 a.m.
The National Weather Service advises that those with travel plans remain inside.
A winter storm warning was released today and remains in effect until early Friday morning.
Friday should be mostly cloudy with highs in the lower 30s. There is a chance of snow on Saturday, said the National Weather Service.
The University will usually post whether or not classes will be cancelled for the whole day at around 6 a.m., said a Public Safety officer Thursday night.
According to radar reports, as of midnight on Friday the storm was directly over Long Island.
