An announcement is expected around 5:30 a.m. Friday on whether or not classes will be cancelled on that day, said a Public Safety officer Thursday night.
The University, which officially cancelled all classes after 6 p.m. on Thursday, has been blanketed by snow since late that afternoon.
According to a recent measurement in the Netherlands South Complex by HofstraChronicle.com, there is about 3 inches of snow on the University campus.
According to the latest radar reports from the National Weather Service, the storm is directly over Long Island and is moving northeastward across the island.
The storm is expected to bring up to 5-8 inches of snow overnight in some parts of Long Island, said the National Weather Service and will taper off before 4 a.m. The National Weather Service also advises that those with travel plans to remain inside throughout the storm.
A winter storm warning was released today for Nassau and Suffolk counties and remains in effect until early Friday morning.
Friday should be mostly cloudy with highs in the lower 30s. There is a chance of snow on Saturday, said the National Weather Service.
