The Men’s soccer team lost its third game in a row, this time to Marist 3-1 on Wednesday, dropping their record to 2-4.
The Pride started the day’s scoring at 8:42 of the first half when junior forward Michael Todd scored his first goal of the season. Senior Matthew Telling sent a pass to Todd and Marist goaltender Mike Valenti came out of his crease at the same time. Todd managed to move around Valenti on the right side of the penalty area, went past another Marist defender and let a shot rip at the far post, but was assisted when the shot was deflected by another Red Fox defender.
Soon after Marist started its offensive attack and got on the board with 15:57 remaining in the first half. Keith DeTej capitalized on a slant pass at the far post prior to a pile up near the front of the Pride’s goal.
The go ahead game winning goal was scored with 2:19 remaining in the first half, when Anthony Graci blew past three Pride defenders untouched and fired a shot from 20 yards out to the lower right side of Pride goalie Matthias Gumbrecht.
The Red Foxes last goal came in the later part of the second half, and was a result of the Pride keeping fewer men back due to heavy offensive pressure. Bruno Machado dashed up the middle of the field and took a shot from 25 yards out, slipping it by a diving Gumbrecht again on the lower right side.
The Pride out shot Marist 22-13, making it the fourth straight game where the Pride was able to gain an outstanding amount of chances, yet couldn’t finish on the opportunities.
The Pride plays St. Francis Saturday at 6 p.m.
