Antoine Agudio’s numerous highlights this season include seven Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week awards. He is the second leading scorer on a team that began the season 9-0 before losing at the No. 8 Syracuse University Orange on Dec. 30. Antoine is the best three-point shooter on the team at 44 percent and fell one trey shy of the school record for three-pointers in a game with six against the College of William & Mary.
Pride head coach Tom Pecora spoke highly of Agudio’s presence.
“Antoine is a pleasure to coach because of his passion for the game and his outstanding work habits,” Pecora said. “He is as fine a shooter as I have ever coached.”
Chronicle: Ok let’s start out simple, what’s your major?
Antoine: Physical Education, but my first goal is to be in the NBA. If I can’t do that then I want to get into maybe coaching.
Chronicle: With that in mind, how long do you think it will take for you to get into the league?
AA: I think it will take about three or four years before I go to the NBA.
Chronicle: Do you think you need to work on any parts of your game?
AA: I mainly need to work on my defense and ball handling.
Chronicle: What player in the NBA or otherwise would you say you model your game after?
AA: My favorite player is Allen Iverson. I like to slash like him and all that, I just don’t have that killer crossover down yet.
Chronicle: What do you do when you’re not playing basketball?
AA: Either I’m watching basketball on TV or I’m studying a previous tape of myself.
Chronicle: What would you say was your favorite moment of the season so far?
AA: Going undefeated into Syracuse.
Chronicle: Yeah, I feel you. It was a tight game. They just took it in the end. Do you think the Pride can make the NCAA tournament this season?
AA: Definitely. We had a real good start to the season and we have a pretty good team.
Chronicle: So what do you think about the preseason coaches ranking the team seventh to finish in the CAA?
AA: I think it was an insult. We’re better than that and our team has proven that.
Chronicle: What’s something about you most people may not know?
AA: I’m very humble and I have a sense of humor. I joke a lot. A lot of people may not see that though.
