In case you want to print the Firefighter’s Song. I teach Psychology and Law and was pulled from class on 9/11/01 to be interviewed by Channel 12 by Hofstra’s Public Information. I’ve been interviewed numerous times since and put together two conferences at Hofstra.
By way of background, I am a clinical, forensic and neuropsychologist, and am Certified in Homeland Security. I evaluated one of Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman’s co-defendants in the New York Terrorist Trial post the February 26 1993 attack of the WTC, and I evaluated the defendant in the Happy Land trial (arson in which 87 died in the Bronx). I have worked with many 9/11 victims (still do), have lectured and have conducted crisis intervention. This little tribute came to my mind this morning as I was thinking about the events that fateful day. +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Firefighter’s Song The tranquil air of the station house is shatteredBy the sudden blasting of the alarmHe rises to his feet to readyTo battle a fire and save lives.Something seems different however,In that penetrating sound of despair.A sense of foreboding, some doomHe wondered, would he come back today? As the fire engine speeds He sees in their eyesA worried look unlike before.Off in the distanceA cloud of smokeMarring a bright blue sky.In a moment he seesAnd can’t help but gaspIs it possible, can it be?Our symbol of greatnessThose twin majestic towersBurning before his very eyes.People are jumpingDebris everywhereLower Manhattan brought to its knees. The heat is intenseAn air of panic pervadesA tear swells in his eyeAnd a horrid fear sets in.But he rushes to do his job.He rushes to aidTo help douse the fireAs intense as the Sun’s very core.He gives his life that dayAnd in his mindHis last parting thoughts,Tell my family I love themTell God that I tried Remember them todayRemember the Twin TowersRemember American Airlines Flight 11Remember American Airlines Flight 77Remember the PentagonRemember United Airlines Flight 175Remember PennsylvaniaRemember United Airlines Flight 93Remember 9/11
