Pride honoring Majorie ShuartAs part of the CAA Awards Banquet in Norfolk, Va, the Pride will honor Majorie Shuart as the “Hofstra Legend” for her many years of service to the Pride and entire Long Island Community. She graduated in 1960 with a degree in elementary education. Shuart taught first grade in 1979 and earned a Master’s degree in social work from Adelphi University in Garden City, NY. In 1982, she began her career in government, working as a social worker with the Nassau County Department of Mental Health. Ten years later, she was promoted to commissioner of the department. Since her retirement Shuart has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Nassau County Mental Health Association and is on the Board of the Logan Foundation. She is also chair of the Nassau County Early Intervention Community Council. Shuart was honored in 1997 by the Nassau County AHRC Foundation with their Humanitarian Award for her outstanding efforts and devotion to helping children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.
Pride tennis cruisesNikola Djordjevic dropped just one game in his match, and two other Pride singles players won in straight sets en route to a 6-1 victory over Fairfield on Saturday evening in New Haven, Connecticut. The Pride earned the doubles point, as Djordjevic and Matt Schor defeated Colin Torrance and Steve Kourj of Fairfield 8-4. Fairfield would even the match with an 8-6 win at third doubles before Mike Bosch and Jared Coggan slid past Jon Fernando and Kevin Nyarady of Fairfield, 9-8 (7-5), to give the Pride the doubles points. In singles, the Pride quickly put an end to the match as the first three singles matches were all won in straight sets. Fairfield would get on the board with a victory at fourth doubles, but the Pride added two more points with tie-breaker victories at fifth and sixth singles. Pride tennis returns to action on Sunday, March 14 when it hosts Loyola College at 1 p.m.
Pride picked third in Lacrosse pollThe Pride and George Mason each received a total of 34 points for a tie of third place in the CAA preseason lacrosse poll. JMU, is ranked eighth in the latest Top 20 poll. The CAA women’s lacrosse championship will be held May 1 through May 2, with the highest seed playing host.
