Old Dominion (17-1) Old Dominion University finished off a nearly flawless regular season with a 79-45 win over William & Mary on March 4. Senior forward Monique Coker led the way for ODU with 16 points and 4 assists. Senior guard Max Nhassengo added 15 points and 2 assists as well. On the whole, the Monarchs shot 50 percent from the field and grabbed 46 rebounds. Old Dominion finished first in the Colonial Athletic Association standings, and will receive a bye for the first round of the conference tournament.
George Mason (11-7)George Mason University fell to Delaware on March 4 by a final score of 67-58. GMU failed to post any big numbers on offense, with only two players, senior guard Vernessa Neamo (14 points), and senior guard Jen Derevjanik (13 points), scoring in double digits. The Patriots’ scoring percentage was an unimpressive 36 percent from the field. George Mason finished second in the CAA standings and will receive a bye for the first round of the conference tournament.
Delaware (10-8) The University of Delaware ended its season with a 67-58 win over George Mason on March 4. Freshman guard Tyresa Smith put up 16 points, while junior forward Tiffany Young and junior forward Tiara Malcom scored 12 points each. The University of Delaware finished fourth in the CAA standings, and will receive a bye for the first round of the playoffs.
UNC-Wilmington (10-8) UNC-Wilmington ended its season on a high note, defeating the Pride on March 4 by a score of 65-61. Wilmington earned its third consecutive win thanks to the efforts of CAA Player of the Week, senior forward Tracy Morgan (22 points), and senior guard Jennifer Kapper (14 points). Wilmington, who finished fifth overall in the CAA standings, will receive a bye for the first round of the playoffs.
VCU (10-8) Virginia Commonwealth University won its final game in overtime, defeating Drexel 64-61 on March 4. The Rams produced numerous high-scorers, including senior guard Cyndy Wilks who put up a game-high 19 points, junior forward Lauren Hogan who scored 16 points, and junior center Kristina Cesnaviciute who scored 13 points. The Rams finished sixth overall and will be the final team to earn a bye for the first round of the CAA playoffs.
James Madison (7-11)After two consecutive losses on the road, James Madison University finished its season with a 75-65 home win over Towson on March 4. Team-high scorer senior guard Jody Larose (12 points) and CAA Rookie of the Week freshman forward Meredith Alexis (11 points) led the way for the Dukes. James Madison finished seventh in the conference. Drexel (7-11) Drexel University was unable to end its losing streak after a loss to VCU by a score of 64-61 on March 4. The Dragons streak is now at four consecutive losses. Despite efforts by team-high scorer junior forward Katrina Martin (17 points) and sophomore guard Catherine Scanlon (11 points), Drexel was unable to pull ahead of VCU at the end of regulation. Unfortunately for the Dragons, VCU edged them out in the extra period. Drexel finished eighth in the CAA standings.
William & Mary (6-12) The College of William & Mary fell to Old Dominion on March 4 by a score of 79-45. The Tribes’ offensive play was poor, having only to players score in double digits, freshman guard Kyle DeHaven (18 points) and senior forward Christin Gethers (10 points). William & Mary finished ninth in the CAA standings.
Towson (1-17)Towson University ended its almost winless season with a 75-65 loss to James Madison on March 4. Junior guard Brandi Harris scored a game-high 18 points, and junior forward Kelli Talbot contributed 15 points for the Tigers. However, Towson was unable to keep pace with JMU’s offensive power. Towson finished dead last in the CAA standings.
