The Hofstra Pride men’s basketball team take their five-game winning streak on the road this week as they travel to take on the Northeastern University Huskies at Matthews Arena in Boston, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
The Pride’s latest win came over the weekend as they defeated the Stony Brook University Seawolves, 79-58. They had to do so without Aaron Estrada, whose absence did not deter the Pride from getting their just desserts against their Long Island rivals.
A huge piece of the puzzle was Tyler Thomas, who stole the show as the leading scorer for the Pride with a season high 29 points. He went 3-for-5 from three and made 11 defensive rebounds. There’s also no looking past Bryce Washington, Warren Williams and German Plotnikov, as each of them put up 14 points on the scoreboard for the Pride.
With only six games remaining in the regular season, Hofstra currently leads the College of Charleston Cougars at the top of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) standings. While each side has a conference record of 10-2, Hofstra has the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Two of the six remaining games will be against Northeastern, a team that is currently on a four-game losing streak. Each of their previous two losses have been decided by one score or less, including a one-point loss to the Elon University Phoenix on Saturday, Feb. 4. They currently have an 8-14 overall record and 4-7 conference record.
While the Pride have been near-perfect at home this season with only one loss in nine games, they tend to struggle a bit more on the road. However, they have a winning record in away games at 7-5. Meanwhile, the Huskies have struggled to find a rhythm at home as they find themselves with a 4-5 record in front of their own crowd.
Historically, however, there isn’t a fine margin between these two head-to-head. Hofstra has a winning record against Northeastern all-time, 28-24. It was even more razor thin before last year when the Pride swept the Huskies in 2022. Technically speaking, Hofstra hasn’t lost to Northeastern since Speedy Claxton became their head coach.
The Pride will be in search of their sixth consecutive win as they take on Northeastern on Wednesday, Feb. 8. Tip-off from Matthews Arena is at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network. It can also be streamed on FloHoops and heard on 88.7 FM-WRHU.
