The Hofstra Pride women’s basketball team suffered a defeat on the road against the Georgia Institute of Technology Yellow Jackets by a score of 65-32 on Wednesday, Nov. 24, dropping their record back to a .500 at 2-2.
The Pride struggled to gain any momentum in this contest, shooting only 27% from the field, while Georgia Tech shot 47% from the floor. The first quarter closed with the Yellow Jackets holding an 18-4 advantage over Hofstra. Guard JaKayla Brown and forward Jaylen Hines were the only ones to score for Hofstra in the quarter. In total, Hines shot 4-6 from the field, for a total of 9 points, while Brown contributed 6 points, shooting 2-8 from the floor.
“We want to continue to move the ball to get open,” said Hofstra head coach Danielle Santos Atkinson. “It’s something we’re going to continue to work on.”
The second half was more of the same as the Yellow Jackets dominated the glass, scoring 28 points in the paint when it was all said and done.
Georgia Tech was led by guard Lotta-Maj Lahtinen, who scored 15 points, shooting 5-6 from the floor in 12 minutes of action. Forward Lorela Cubaj had a double-double, putting up 10 points to go along with 11 rebounds.
“Georgia Tech’s a great team,” Santos Atkinson said. “They’re physical [and] they’re very big in the paint. We knew it was going to be a battle from start to finish, and we knew we’d need to come out and play with a lot of energy, a lot of effort and that we would need to play our best basketball.”
Hofstra will continue their four-game road trip when they take on the Owls of Kennesaw State University on Friday, Nov. 26.
