The Hofstra Pride baseball team was simply outplayed on Friday, May 7 in Boston, MA. The Huskies of Northeastern University defeated the Pride 13-1 at Friedman Diamond in game one of the four-game weekend set.
With the loss, the Pride’s record moved to 15-16 overall and 6-10 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. The Huskies continued to dominate, as they are now 24-6 this season, with a 12-0 ledger in conference play.
Northeastern capitalized early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first, and then added to that lead with another two runs on two homers in the third, hit by Jared Dupere and Max Viera.
Hofstra’s only run came in the top of the fourth inning, when they had the bases loaded, with Will Kennedy grounding into a double play. Hofstra had only one more runner in scoring position during the rest of the game.
Dupere had a big day, going 4-5 for the Huskies including two home runs. He also drove in three runs, scored five times and stole a base twice.
Northeastern had four home runs, with Dupere’s two along with homers from Viera and Cory DiLoreto.
For the Pride’s offense, Santino Rosso led the day, going 2-4 with a double. Ryan Morash also had two hits in three at-bats. Those four hits were more than half of the team’s total, as the Pride tallied just seven in the game.
Jack Jett gave up 10 runs, seven of which were earned, on 11 hits. The six innings of work resulted in a loss for Jett, his third of the season. This now makes him 2-3 for the year. Despite the loss, Jett managed to strikeout eight Huskies.
Austin Gauthier’s eight-game hit streak came to an end, as he went 0-4. Gauthier is batting .365 this season, which leads the Pride overall.
Hofstra and Northeastern will continue the series on Saturday, May 8 at Friedman Diamond.
