The Hofstra Pride women’s lacrosse team had a day to forget on Tuesday, March 9 as they lost to the University at Albany Great Danes 18-7 at the John Fallon Field in Albany, NY.
The Pride stumbled out of the gates as the Danes took an early five-goal lead in the first half until Alyssa Parrella got the Pride on the scoreboard with her first goal of the game. Parrella’s goal was followed up on by teammate Alexa Mattera who cut the Pride’s deficit to three goals.
As the first half was coming to a close, the Danes’ Sarah Falk and Madison Conway each scored their second goals of the game to give Albany a five-goal lead once again.
Coming out of the half, Parrella added her second goal of the game for the Pride, cutting the deficit to four. Shortly after, Albany’s Kyla Zapolski found the back of the net twice, and with goals from Bryar Hogg and Katie Pascale, the Danes took an 11-3 lead.
Grace Langella cut the Pride’s deficit to seven goals as she was assisted by Parrella, but not long after Pascale and Kendra Harbinger chipped in two more goals for Albany to take extend the lead to nine.
Langella responded with her second goal of the day for the Pride as the team trailed by eight. Jordyn Marr and Zapolski added the 14th and 15th goals respectively for the Danes as Hofstra head coach Shannon Smith pulled starting goalkeeper Jess Smith.
The teams traded goals while time ran out in the second half, creating an 11-point margin as time expired.
Langella had her fourth career hat trick while Parrella tallied two goals and an assist. Darcie Smith led the team in groundballs with four.
Zapolski led the charge for Albany with six points, while Harbinger followed up with five.
The Pride will look to get back on track this Friday, March 12 against Fairfield University. Faceoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium.
