Tino’s Jersey Reviews: Final Recap
Hello everyone! This is the final edition of Tino’s Jersey Reviews. This article will have the full selection of new looks for next season all in one place! On top of that, you can see all ratings with a description for each, in order. Let’s get to the reviews!
When I decided to make this jersey review series, I did my research. Seven teams were going to release new uniforms for this NFL season, including the Colts. They missed the opportunity to add blue pants and did not incorporate a new logo, only slightly changing the font. They could have done much better.
There is a lot of controversy currently surrounding the Washington Football team due to many allegations of misconduct from the front office, as well as the decision to change the name of the team. After all this, fans were looking forward to a positive! To those fans: I’m sorry. I would like to see the team listen to what the fans and the Washington community has to say, and move toward a new era. Not everyone will be happy, but if they listen to the fans it will be a good start. Washington Football Team got a lower score because they could have both improved their uniform and let everyone know it is a “placeholder” year for them. I would have loved to see a “WF” for Washington Football on the helmet, or the side of the jerseys. Like I said, as of now the uniforms look like they would belong to a middle school football team. Let’s just hope, for their sake, that they don’t play like one this year.
The Cleveland Browns have changed their uniforms. We all knew this was coming almost instantly after they decided to release widely disliked uniforms in 2015. Now, I will say I commend them for trying. Many teams never take the risk to switch things up as drastically as they did, and they learned their lesson. They made necessary changes, and overall, they improved their look for next season.
The Buccaneers went for the traditional look here, reminiscent of what we saw in up until 2014. Tampa Bay made a major change, getting rid of those ugly alarm clock numbers and replacing them with the proper football number style. I appreciate the thought process here but I was a little underwhelmed by the traditional look. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t pop out to me as a new revolutionary culture change in Tampa. Hey, maybe that is what Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski are for.
I commend the Patriots for not having a throwback look. Although I do love the Pat Patriot look from the 1960s up until the 90s, too many teams have decided to go back to bring back past designs. It was originally speculated that the Patriots would be getting a new alternative option for 2020. When I saw these, I was pleasantly surprised, even though their new primary is the old color rush look introduced in 2016. The away is a brand-new option that matches well with the pants. The Pats had the potential to be the first team to crack the eights, but without white pants and a third option, I couldn’t let them see over 7.5. Maybe these new uniforms will help all of New England to forget about Brady leaving … or not.
The Falcons have really impressed me here. Coming out of the gate with an all-black and all-white look is very sharp. I love that the Falcons are trying something no team in the NFL has done. In total, they have eight different uniform combinations to choose from on game day. While I am in love with the bold alternates, we just don’t know how they will look when it comes to game time. Aside from that, I think the essence of a falcon itself is definitely clearer now. All in all, Atlanta did a great job with their new look.
When the Los Angeles Rams unveiled their new logo, it was a nightmare. Many NFL fans were quick to share their dislike of the new design, and can you blame them? The Rams have a classic look, and although their colors and location has changed throughout their time in the NFL, the logo has always stayed the same. The bold move by the Rams really caught my attention, and I actually like the new uniforms. The Rams deserved a high rating here, as they kept the colors that go well together but with a twist: those helmets are arguably the best in the league. Out of eight reviews the Rams are second best, just like they finished second best to the Patriots in the Super Bowl.
The Chargers have won the 2020 NFL offseason. Without a doubt, no matter what happens from here on out, the Chargers have come out with the best uniforms so far, and with only the Rams remaining it is most likely going to stay that way. The Chargers have always had good uniforms, if not the best. But these have taken it to the next level. When you think about iconic uniforms in all of sports, you think about The New York Yankees, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Well, the Chargers’ new uniform for the 2020 NFL season beats all of those. These are the best uniforms worn by any team, at any time, ever. They are not the most iconic, which is fair because they don’t have the hardware to battle with the Yankees or Celtics, but these are the best. I don’t just want to buy the jersey itself – I want the whole uniform. They couldn’t get a 10/10 due to the wordmark issue, but no one has been perfect in the NFL, and these are by far the closest to that. Bravo, Chargers.
