Hofstra women’s tennis team took a singles and doubles title along with two runner-ups at the Hofstra University’s Invitational this weekend.
Senior Michal Kaplan defeated her own teammate Alejandra Ruffini in the “A” singles draw finals 8-3. Kaplan started her 3-0 day in the quarterfinals defeating Vedika Anand of Wagner College 8-2. During the semis Kaplan took down teammate Jasmine King 8-2.
Both King and Ruffini ended 2-1 in singles play. King defeated Patricia Eftenoiu of Fairleigh Dickinson 8-6 in the round of 16. In the quarters, King downed Dilara Spicer of Siena 8-2 before falling to Kaplan in the finals. As for Ruffini, during the quarters she defeated Aleks Vorozheikina of Fairleigh Dickinson 8-5. Ruffini took down Siena opponent Meagan Brown 8-5 in the semis.
Freshman Hailey Feuer reached the “B” singles flight finals, but fell 9-7 to Smriti Singh of Fairleigh Dickinson. Feuer defeated Wagner’s Emma Reeves 8-2 and Hofstra teammate Odessa Stork 8-6.
The doubles team of Ruffini and Katherine Kachkarov went 3-0 during the invite to win the “A” doubles title. They began by defeating Fidan Khalilzade and Samantha Lugtu of Wagner 6-1. In the semis they ousted Fairleigh Dickinson’s Tatiana Eftenoiu and Carolin Menzen 6-4. The finals matchup saw Ruffini and Kacjkarov edge Spicer and Brown of Siena 7-5.
In “B” doubles Ana Canahuate-Torres and Ronia Dolabany won the consolation championship with a 6-1 win over teammates Kaplan and Feuer.
The Pride will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 5, when they host New York Institute of Technology.
