Keith Cerrato, a Hofstra senior and member of the University’s roller hockey team died Friday night, after a car hit him while he was walking only blocks from campus. According to police reports, Cerrato, 24, of Garden City, N.Y., was walking north across Fulton Avenue near Meadowbrook Lane at around 10:20 p.m on Friday when he was hit by a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu heading eastbound. He was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities. The driver, Ena Granados, 36, of Far Rockaway, was issued a summons after police inspected the vehicle and found it had faulty brakes. Cerrato had graduated from Chaminade High School in Mineola in 2001, and was studying finance and psychology at the University.A Facebook group dedicated to Cerrato was shortly erected where friends and fans could pay their respects to “the man who never stopped smiling.”
