Old Dominion (6-2, 1-0): The Monarchs had their three game winning streak snapped with a loss to Marist. Although Old Dominion had a good night shooting at 46.2%, they were out rebounded 37-28. Valdas Vasylius had a 15 point effort in the 84-71 defeat.
The Monarchs bounced back from their loss to beat James Madison 70-57 in both teams Conference opener. Valdas Vasylius had another solid game pulling down a career high 13 rebounds giving coach Blaine Taylor his 100th win at ODU. Hofstra (5-3, 1-0): The Pride continued their winning ways adding two more to the win column this week. In their first game Hofstra traveled to Siena and won by four. Carlos Rivera had his first solid game of the season scoring 26 points in the 84-80 triumph. In its home and Conference opener, Hofstra was given a scare by Georgia State but hung on to win 62-59.
The CAA’s leading scorer, Loren Stokes scored 18 and Mike Davis-Sabb had a breakout game with 14 points and 8 boards.
Towson (5-3, 1-0): Gary Neal scored 21 of his 29 points in the second half and Towson defeated Vermont 67-54. The Tigers had 12 blocked shots one shy of matching the school record. Towson had control of this game from the beginning and at one point led by 17 points.
Northeastern (2-5, 1-0): Bennet Davis had 12 points, 8 rebounds and 7 blocks to lead Northeastern to a 58-51 win over UNC Wilmington in the CAA opener for both teams. With 2:34 left Northeastern went on a 9-0 to secure the game. Northeastern took advantage of sloppy play by Wilmington scoring 24 points off 18 turnovers.
Virginia Commonwealth (5-2, 0-0): After dropping two out of its last three games the Rams have won three in a row. The Rams latest victories came against Elon and Houston. VCU handled Elon with a 91-49 victory. The Rams never trailed at one point led 22-0. VCU had an equally easy time against Houston. Eric Maynor scored a career high 28 and B.A. Walker added 26 as the Rams waxed Houston 102-84.
Drexel (5-2, 0-0): The Dragons played a back and forth game with Toledo this past week. Tramayne Hawthorne’s 3-pointer gave the Dragons the lead for good 4:40 left in the game. Frank Elegar led all scores with 15 points.
In their second game of the week Drexel beat cross-town rival St.Josephs 72-56. Chaz Crawford played supreme defense blocking 7 shots to lead his team to victory. Drexel most now prepare for two Big East powerhouses in Villanova and Syracuse.
George Mason (3-3, 0-0): The Patriots come back came up just three points short as they fell at home to Bucknell 60-57. After going into the half trailing by 13, George Mason played a very good second half pulling with in three, three times in the final minute. George Mason was only able to get to the charity stripe four times throughout the whole game.
James Madison(2-5, 0-1): The Dukes continued their up and down season by dropping their last two. Their latest defeat came at the hands of Conference leader Old Dominion. James Madison only shot 39 percent from the field and 20 percent from behind the arc, losing by a score of 70-57.
William & Mary (3-3, 0-1): The Tribe played in back to back nights and won both nights. William & Mary slipped passed Jacksonville State 59-56. Although the game was close, William & Mary never trailed in the game and lead by as many as 10. The Tribe won the Tip Off Classic by beating Cornell in overtime 72-68. Laimis Kisielius scored 21 points as the Tribe outscored Cornell in overtime 11-6.
UNC-Wilmington (3-4. 0-1): UNC Wilimington fell in their conference opener 58-51 to Northeastern. In the loss Temi Soyebo had 6 assists and a career high 16 rebounds.
As a matter of fact the Seahawks out rebounded their opponent 49-31. The Seahawks must now prepare for Mid Major power house Missouri State who already upset Wisconsin this year.
Delaware (0-6) (0-0): Delaware remains the only winless team in the Colonial Athletic Association. Delaware’s latest loss came at the hands of Vermont. Once again Delaware let a double figure lead slip away and lost by a score of 57-55.
Georgia State (3-4) (0-1): After trailing 31-19 at the half Georgia State came back to take a 59-57 lead. Unfortunately Georgia State couldn’t hold on to its slim lead and fell 62-59.
