The Towson Tigers snapped their four game losing streak on Fri., Oct. 26 as forward Kajee Murangi scored the game- winning goal with just over one minute remaining in the first overtime. Hofstra entered halftime with the lead, 1-0, but Towson prevailed through the torrential downpours and managed a comeback, posting a final score of 3-2. The victory improved Towson’s record to 7-10 (2-5 CAA) while Hofstra fell to 6-10 (2-5 CAA).
De Angelis credited Towson’s recent play, but recognized the inclement weather as a considerable and equalizing factor in Friday night’s game.
Freshman Amy- Lee Levey scored her third goal of the season at 18:59, as she converted a penalty corner with assistance from Reyna Farnum and Pemba Ramdoo to put Hofstra on the board first.
Pemba Ramdoo’s unassisted goal at 40:59 dropping Towson downtrail 2-0 until early in the second half but the Tigers’ turning point transpired when Christina Boarman scored a goal as she slammed a shot into the top of the cage above Krisha Giammarco’s head at 49:23.
Giammarco endured the entire game in the net making three saves and allowing four goals. The freshman goalie remarked that the field’s lighting and weather conditions at Villa Julie were not favorable, but did not contribute heavily to the loss.
Mariah Schuette scored the last goal of regulation at 00:00 as she pushed a shot to the right corner of the net and scored the tying goal for the Tigers after receiving a pass from Murangi. Schuette’s goal sent the game into overtime.
The teams played about fourteen minutes of scoreless play when Murangi scored her tenth goal of the season and ended the contest with a final score of 3-2.
Despite the loss, Hofstra outnumbered Towson in total shots on goal 14-2. The Tigers however edged the Pride 12-9 in penalty corners.
