Old Dominion, who is currently ranked second to James Madison in the CAA standings with a record of 4-0 in conference play, conquered Hofstra 4-0 on Sat., Oct. 6 as the Pride visited the Lady Monarchs at Foreman Field.
Loran Hatch of ODU, who would later be later named as the CAA rookie of the week, was the first to score at 14:16. Kathleen Shea assisted her with a pass from the top of the circle and Hatch fired it into the cage.
Nadine Surak endured the first half in the cage allowing two goals, and saving three shots on goal. The time in the net would be split evenly as Krisha Giammarco entered the net during the second half.
Hofstra remained persistent throughout the first half, but the Pride was strongly overpowered in the second half as the Lady Monarchs outshot them 14-2.
Hanna Warren, Kathleen Shear, and Katelyn Smither would pursue Giammarco while in goal, each scoring a single, unassisted goal. As Hofstra’s Shannon Alexander attempted to make a defensive save, Hanna Warren rebounded off of Alexander at 45:17 and capitalized, shooting and scoring past Giammarco, who also allowed two goals and had three saves.
Katelyn Smither would rebound the ball off of a blocked penalty corner to score the final goal of the match at 69:38. The Lady Monarchs edged the Pride 11- 1 in penalty corners throughout the game. Amy-Lee Levey, Charlia Warner, and Pemba Ramdoo would be the only Hofstra players to attempt a shot during the entire game.
The Pride made a total of ten saves. As Katy Vitolo and Shannon Alexander each recorded a defensive save, both Surak and Giammarco saved three shots on goal.
The ODU Lady Monarchs improved their CAA record to 4-0 in conference play and 7-5 overall and won their sixth game in-a-row, while the Pride fell to 5-7 on the season (1-3 CAA).
