Sometimes athletes expect to be rewarded for their play. They spend their whole careers garnering awards and being recognized. Others play sports like field hockey that fall way beneath the radar, and they never expected recognition from the outside world.
When Pride Senior Forward Britt Blankmeyer was selected as one of the 38 members to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Senior All-Star Game, it was a welcomed surprise.
“I feel really fortunate that I got picked. I didn’t think I would get picked.” Blankmeyer said. “Coach said she was going to nominate me but told me I might not get picked, but if I did I would have to go. So, I said yes not thinking I would get picked but it will be really good.”
Even though Blankmeyer was chosen for the game, she is still uncertain of any details other than the game will be played on Saturday, Nov. 22 at University of Louisville during Final Four Weekend.
“I have no clue how the teams get picked. They told me they would send me an email this month.” Blankmeyer said. “I know some other girls that got picked and I have been wondering if I will get to play with them.”
This award comes as a final honor in a long career for the Pride. Blankmeyer has been a four year starter from the Pride and will play her final two games for the Pride this weekend.
“I got real emotional this past weekend when I realized that these were going to be my last games here next weekend.” Blankmeyer said. “I spent four years here and it went by so fast.”
