There is a serious financial crisis and scandal happening here on campus regarding Lackmann Foods. The employees of the University’s Dining Services are embezzling thousands of dollars per week from the University’s hardworking students. We are inclined to believe that employees of the University’s card services department may be involved in this cover up also. On numerous occasions, they have received complaints from students and faculty who had unsubstantiated charges on their meal cards. Public Safety has also received complaints from students and other customers who were denied receipts after purchasing meals from The Netherlands Cafeteria/Subway, Bits & Bytes, Hofstra Deli and Dutch Treats.
They are also breaking consumer retail laws, which require items to be charged as the price listed. All of the cafeterias are overcharging students while withholding receipts to keep students unaware of what their declining balances are.
After complaining to supervisors in the card services office, these students were merely told, “Don’t worry about it. Your parents are paying for it. It doesn’t come out of your pocket.”
We believe that these employees are undoubtedly receiving kickbacks from Lackmann Foods. Half of the small items are not priced, which is why many students are confused about mysterious charges on their cards.
