Welcome back, loyal readers of Two Girls, One Column! Sorry that we peaced out without saying goodbye or giving back your pink University sweatshirt. We had things to do. You understand. But we are back (in black) and excited (sort of) for the new semester. If for no other reason than the fact that the silver fox himself, Anderson Cooper, will be gracing us with his presence.
We hope you followed in the steps of Oprah and Jessica Simpson and experienced a holiday weight gain. It’s so in right now. If not, aim for maybe 20 pounds?
Well, it has been too long since we were given an open forum to “voice our opinions.” That is a nicer way of saying “complain.” A friend of ours works for the University’s radio station, and attempted to slip flyers promoting the station and its shows under the doors of rooms in the residence halls.
While she was doing this, the University’s finest were pushing them back out into the hallways, throwing them out and telling her they did not care. If you don’t want people shoving things under your door, fine. We would be lost without Shy Lounge’s stripper-covered flyers finding their way to our door every week.
But really. It was obvious she had put a lot of work into said flyers and was upset about people disregarding and throwing them into a garbage can among the remains of their Maui Surf burritos. While this is a problem of respect and consideration, it is an issue that goes even further than that. University students do not care. We have amazing facilities and radio shows being played on the University’s television channels and no one cares enough to listen.
Slacker Tool’s secret girlfriend of six years just confronted him on “Tool Academy,” and there is no way in Hell the channel is being changed! Vh1 masterpieces aside, the University community is not one embracing its creative outlets.
Emerson College was voted as having the top college radio station, and when you walk by their dorms on the street, passersby can hear their radio shows playing. Why can’t the University receive that kind of attention? We have great facilities and students putting in a lot of work to make a quality program. Give them a listen sometime. And if you really can’t find anything you like, join the station and play what you think people want to hear. But seriously, stop being lame and give it a listen. Seriously.
So, that was our rant for the week. Well, one among many. How about that it was nearly spring weather on Monday, but was freezing cold Tuesday? Yeah, ponder that one. We are going to hibernate for a while…once that damn grizzly bear stops scratching it’s back on our bedpost!
Fondest wishes,
DMX & Missy.
