As the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) held its cross country championships at UNC-Wilmington, the Tribe of William & Mary (W&M) had a very successful run. W&M, who finished with a top team score of 26, were led by sophomore runner Ian Fitzgerald and Matt Keally. Fitzgerald finished first in the men’s 8K race with a time of 24:31 and Keally, who was the 2004 champion, placed fifth.

The Lady Tribe also won the women’s championship. While James Madison University (JMU) senior, Shannon Saunders won the women’s 6K race, the Tribe placed five women in the top 10. Meghan Bishop, Julia Cathcart, Erin Prillaman, Julie Taylor and Tracy Williams helped W&M finish the sweep at the cross county championships last week.
FIELD HOCKEY
Old Dominion University (ODU) clinched the CAA title last week with wins over the Pride and Northeastern. The Monarchs were led by CAA Player of the Week Dana Sensenig, a junior midfielder who scored two goals last week and assisted on the winner against the Pride. Drexel freshman goalie, Colleen McAndrew, was named CAA-Co Rookie of the Week along with JMU freshman midfielder Melissa Stefaniak.

George Mason University sophomore forward, Dan Ames, was awarded Brine CAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week honors for scoring both game-winning goals in victories over Delaware (1-0) and Drexel (3-2). Those victories were the first for George Mason since Sept. 24. The Brine CAA Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week was W&M sophomore Brennan Wergley, who has posted back to back to back shutouts against JMU, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and Towson.

Brine CAA Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week Stephanie Power led VCU in scoring two goals against W&M and assisting on the game-winning goal against ODU. Delaware senior goalie Lindsey Shover was awarded Brine CAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors for making 18 saves last week in close games. The playoff pairing was announced on Sunday for the Women’s Soccer Championship: No. 6 W&M at No. 3 Delaware, with the winner of this match moving on to face the No. 2 Pride. The other game is between No. 5 ODU and No. 4 JMU, and the winner of that game will get top seeded VCU. The championship game takes place this Sunday at 2 p.m.
VOLLEYBALL
W&M is chasing the Pride for first place in the standings as it continues to stay hot, winning nine of its last 10. CAA Player of the Week Caitlin Geraghty and CAA Rookie of the Week Kim Mount led W&M last week. Geraghty posted a hitting percentage of .359, registered 3.31 kills per game and nine blocks in three wins.
