ARNONE HONOREDSenior midfielder Chrissy Arnone was named Colonial Athletic Assocation (CAA) Player of the Week, the league offices announced Monday. Arnone scored three goals in two games as she helped the Pride (4-2-1) to a pair of home wins in its final week of non-conference competition. Her biggest goal came Sunday against Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU), which broke a 2-2 tie late in the second half.
Coincidentally, this game-winning goal was named “Goal of the Week” by BigAppleSoccer.com. The award is given out by Big Apple Soccer to the most memorable goal of the previous week from New York area college soccer teams (both men and women).
LUCK OF THE IRISHThe Pride has had success with recruiting in Ireland. The roster has four players from Ireland and three of those players compete on the international level as part of the Irish National Team. The comfort level and chemistry between Marie Curtin, Edel Malone, and Kacey O’Driscoll is certainly evident when they step on the field together for the Pride after playing on the national team together.
PRIDE BEATS UP FORDHAMLast Wednesday’s game between the Pride and Fordham University is tied for the second highest scoring game in the program’s history. The Pride put up seven goals, two each from Curtin and Arnone. Arnone’s goal was her twelfth of the season, moving her to tenth place on the all-time scoring list.
CUTTING CORNERSThe Pride has proven that when it has a corner kick, there is a good chance the ball could end up in the back of the net. Wednesday’s game against the Rams included two goals scored off corners. Jess Crankshaw blasted in a goal after she gathered a ball cleared from Curtin’s corner. The other, taken by Curtin, was headed in by Malone.
In Sunday’s match-up against FDU, the Pride should have had two more goals off corners, but both were called back, one for offsides and the other for a foul. The Pride took seven corners in the game, compared to none for the Knights.
