When he was growing up, Andrew Fantucchio dreamed of being a professional athlete just like every other little boy from Boston. From the land of the Red Sox and the Patriots, he grew up listening to...
Without The Hofstra Chronicle, I would not be where I am today. If you had told my freshman self that she would become the EIC of Hofstra’s newspaper and would be publishing this in the sports section, where her photographs have regularly been in the layout, she never would have believed you.
My freshman year I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with my time here at Hofstra. I wandered over to the club fair the first week of school and was immediately surrounded by what seemed like thousands of different clubs all trying to get me to join. Then, out of the blue, Felipe Fontes just appeared in front of me and said, “You want to write for sports!” Without even taking the time to consider if he meant that as a question or statement, I found myself following him to The Hofstra Chronicle’s table and signing up to join. From that moment on, I guess the rest is history.
I don’t really know how to start this, so I’m gonna do the “thank you”-s first. Thank you to all the incredibly talented editors I’ve worked with in my time on the Chronicle’s executive board. I know being an editor can feel like a thankless job at times; so to everyone from news, features, opinion, arts & entertainment, copy, multimedia and social, I want you to know that I appreciate you, and your dedication and work ethic has not gone unnoticed.
Struggling to find a sense of place at my new school, I desperately craved a home.Enter The Hofstra Chronicle.I felt magic in the air the first time I walked into the office. It was littered with newspapers...
As the months leading up to graduation have dwindled down, a lot of people have asked me if I am excited to graduate. The answer to that question has remained the same every time:
“I’m looking forward to graduating, but I’m not looking forward to leaving The Hofstra Chronicle.”
When I look back on my four years at Hofstra, I quickly realize that I owe everything I have accomplished to The Hofstra Chronicle. The Chronicle led me to change my major to journalism, gave me the experience to land an incredible internship and has gotten me where I am today.
I’ll be honest – I thought this would be easier. Those who know me well enough know that I’m never short on words, and yet as I sit here and write my send-off, my final published article in four years here at The Chronicle, the words aren’t coming as easy as I thought.
I’ve come a long way. From the scrawny and quiet freshman walking onto the baseball team just trying to prove my worth, to the tired, yet extrovertly eager senior ready to begin the journey as a broadcaster in North Carolina, much has happened in between.
