Earth Day celebration calls for community engagement

Calkins Quad buzzed with activism and sustainable activity during an Earth Day celebration held on Wednesday, April 18. Organized by the Center for Civic Engagement, the event featured multiple student groups at Hofstra as well as local organizations from the surrounding Long Island area.

Yale professor lectures on religious freedoms

The Department of Religion’s annual Critical Spiritualities Event featured a discussion with Yale University professor Tisa Wenger on her new book about the concept of religious freedom and its impact on ideas that shape American culture. “A Conversation with Dr. Tisa Wenger,” took place on Wednesday, March 28 at 6 p.m. on the 10th floor of the Axinn Library.

Columbia professor speaks on archaeological findings

Emperor Hadrian has been recorded in the annals of history as being a complex, benevolent dictator. His legacy, once a masterpiece of Roman architecture and now a desolation of debris and crumbled walls, is still being studied by many archaeological associations. Two of these groups, the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) and Long Island Society (LIS), sent members to Breslin Hall on Sunday, Feb. 11 to share their recent knowledge of Hadrian’s Villa in Rome.

Students go head-to-head at annual Brain Bee

This was part of a neuroscience event known as the Long Island Brain Bee competition, the local level of an international tournament, sponsored by the Zucker School of Medicine and the Department of Biology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
