A solid start for John Rooney was not enough, as the Hofstra baseball fell to Northeastern University 5-1in game one of a three-game set Friday at University Field.
“I think [Northeastern] just outplayed us today,” said Hofstra head coach John Russo.
Rooney went seven innings, giving up two earned runs and two walks (two HBP), while striking out seven.
Parker Quinn’s bases-clearing double in the third inning helped charge the Hofstra baseball team past Manhattan College 15-4 Tuesday afternoon in Wappingers Falls, NY.
The victory extends the Pride’s win streak to four games, bringing them to 18-15 (7-8 CAA), and the 15-run barrage marks the highest scoring total this season.
Hofstra baseball fell to Elon University on Sunday in North Carolina 5-3 to complete the Phoenix’s sweep over the Pride.

John Rooney took the mound and did not disappoint all of the scouts watching in the stands. The southpaw went for a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out 11 batters.
All bats were silenced today by brilliant performances from each teams respected starting pitchers. Towson University registered the only run in the game which was due to a wild pitch thrown by Hofstra’s Teddy Cillis, in a 1-0 win for the Tigers.

The game came down to the final out with Hofstra leading 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth. Richie Palacios stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and delivered a two-out walk-off grand slam.
Hofstra baseball dropped its rubber match against University at Albany, SUNY 6-4 on Sunday to lose the home-opening series.
“Definitely hate losing the tie-breaker game. It’s not a good way to go into CAA play,” said head coach John Russo. “It’s something we want to put pride into and win on Sundays.”

A two-run go-ahead double in the eighth inning from Rob Weissheier lifted Hofstra baseball to its eighth consecutive win Sunday 4-2 against University of Maryland Baltimore County in Maryland.
Hofstra baseball extended its win streak to seven games Saturday at the UMBC Tournament. In the first game, the Pride faced Mount St. Mary’s University (MD) and won 11-0 on a combined no-hitter. In the second game, Hofstra University defeated the University of Maryland Baltimore County and came out on top 9-6.
