An arrest has been made in last month’s fatal shooting of Hykiem Coney, a reformed ganger member who had become an anti-gang activist. Coney, 24, of Roosevelt, was shot on Oct. 21 at 4:10 a.m. outside of the Image Bar and Lounge in Uniondale. He was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 22 at Nassau University Medical Center, according to the Nassau County Police Department. Tyrel Cason, 24, of Roosevelt, was arrested on Friday, Nov. 17, according to the police. Cason was taken into custody by Nassau County Homicide Detectives and the U.S. Marshal Services Task Force, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Police Department. After extradition to Nassau County, Cason was arraigned at the First District Court in Hempstead on charges of murder in the second degree.Coney was the founder of a gang called the Outlaws, but later renounced the gangster lifestyle when he found religion.
