BASEBALL
Conference play has begun in the CAA, with James Madison, Virginia Commonwealth (VCU) and Old Dominion all sweeping their opponents last week. The Dukes took three games from William & Mary last week and were led by CAA Player of the Week Nate Schill. Schill batted .625 (10-16) with two doubles, four homers and 16 RBI. VCU swept Towson with the help of the CAA Rookie of the Week Jared Bolden. The freshman first-baseman batted .538 (7-13) with a double, two triples, five runs scored and two RBI as well as throwing four scoreless innings of relief.
MEN’S LAX
Delaware continued their dominance as they have improved to 7-0 on the season. Delaware attacker Cam Howard was named CAA Player of the Week, while Blue Hen midfielder Beau Davis was named CAA Rookie of the Week.
WOMEN’S LAX
Drexel and ODU kicked offthe season undefeated. Drexel is holding the top spot in the conference early in the season with a 4-0 record, while ODU has started off the season with wins against American and UMBC. The league office also announced its first set of weekly awards for 2006, with William & Mary’s Colleen Dalon named the CAA Player of the Week, while Towson’s Hillary Fratzke earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors.
SOFTBALL
ODU remains on top of the standings, ahead of the Pride after an impressive showing at Winthrop Invitational. They won four of five games before losing Western Carolina.
