There are always a couple positives in every bad situation. Take last weeks football game against New Hampshire for instance. Sophomore receiver Aaron Weaver broke the schools kickoff return yards record, junior Luke Bonus and Freshman Chris Edmond recorded six tackles each, junior cornerback Leslie Jackman had an interception, sophomore running back Everette Benjamin led the ground attack with 73 yards and a touchdown while adding a receiving touchdown to his totals.
Notice a trend?
Everyone named was an underclassman and that bodes well for the Pride. Especially when you add into the mix the return of starting quarterback Corey Christopher next season and freshman tailback Brock Jackolski.
The only problem is that any idiot can pick apart a stat sheet and look for positives. Find the young players and hope that it means an improvement in the following season. It is what sports writers do and it is why most of them are full of malarkey and I am no exception.
My lack of exception and being stuffed full of–well you know what–is why I am going to go out on a limb and say that the Pride will be better next season. The young players have had an impact role throughout the season and continue to improve week to week. The record is mainly a reflection of injuries and inexperience and both of which are being remedied throughout the season.
The team suffered unfortunate injuries at even more unfortunate times but it has provided them with a glimpse into what they are capable of if players continue to develop.
