Two University students voting today in the “Super Tuesday” primaries observed problems at the polls.
Fatima Sow and Brackett Bilodeau, both freshmen at Hofstra, went to the California Avenue Elementary School to vote, and they overheard poll workers inform a woman that her name was not on the registration list.
Acki Metskas, however, went back to his hometown of Locust Valley to vote, and he experienced no problems.
Incidents such as this were not isolated to Nassau County, however.
There have been various reports across the country of irregularities in voting during today’s “Super Tuesday” primaries. ABC News reported that Obama supporter Oprah Winfrey came out to help voters experiencing difficulty in Chicago.
The Obama camp was not the only campaign to complain about voting problems. “There are reports of irregularities at AZ polling locations that include registered voters’ names not being on registration lists, ID problems, changes in polling place locations that voters don’t know about and voters who were not provided the opportunity to vote by provisional ballot,” according to a statement early in the afternoon from the Clinton campaign. “In all of these cases, voters can and should submit a provisional ballot.”
The Clinton campaign set up a Web site where voters can express any problems they encountered when trying to vote, at www.hillaryclinton.com/action/pollingproblems.
