Could you describe your collection and what the pieces on display include?
They are abstract. Basically, they show emotions or feelings. I started in my junior year of high school with an assignment called “Whisper/Shout.” What I had to do was take a sound and paint what I heard. From there, in my senior year, I was in AP art, and we had to do a concentration, which is 12 pieces of work on one subject. I started doing whisper shouts. Basically, they’re lines with different backgrounds based on music, sound, feelings or stories.
How did you get started as an artist?
I always loved to do art, so I started when I was younger. Through high school, I went through all the art classes, including AP art. Now I just do it as a hobby. It’s one of my greatest releases. I like to go to the 13th floor and just paint with loud music on, it’s like I’m in my own world.
What are your inspirations?
As far as influences, I don’t really have any. But with inspiration, I can get it from anywhere, mostly emotions and the people around me.
What other activities/jobs are you involved in on and off campus?
I’m the Vice President of my Hall Council (Vanderprise), a trainee for WRHU, the secretary of Swing Club, in charge of public relations for HTV Interactive, the Business Manager of the Chronicle, a member of PRSSA, and a member of Hillel.
What do you hope to do after graduation? Will art continue to be a big part of your life?
I hope to be in entertainment PR. I know that’s not just sitting down with celebrities in the back of a limo sipping martinis. Entertainment is art, and I want to help entertainers with their art without them being bad role models for others.
