President Stuart Rabinowitz has been chosen to receive the Chief Executive Leadership Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). He will be honored with the award at CASE’s District II conference in Baltimore March 22-24, according to a University press release.
Tha CASE District II web-site reads that this award recognizes a District II member institution leader, president, chancellor, system head or other campus CEO for his or her “outstanding efforts in promoting the understanding and support of education.” Typical nominees exhibit a positive image of his or her member institution’s stature in the community through the ability to create vision and inspire others, encourage innovations and risk-taking among the institution’s employees and also have a reputation for active support in significant advancement efforts at the institution.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am pleased and proud that President Stuart Rabinowitz was chosen for this prestigious honor,” said Marilyn Monter, Chairperson of the University’s Board of Trustees, in the press release. “His performance over the past seven years has been extraordinary, transforming Hofstra University into a nationally renowned institution, and he is truly deserving of this honor.”
The CASE District II website also reads that the nomination criteria includes submission of a letter describing the nominee’s qualifications, the nominee’s professional and related vita – or a biographical summary of the main point’s of a person’s achievements – and three supporting letters from people endorsing the nomination.
According to Stuart Vincent, assistant vice president for University Relations, President Rabinowitz was nominated by Melissa Connolly, vice president for University Relations. As per the nomination requirements, Connolly got recommendation letters from Monter, Bernard Firestone, dean of the University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi.
Rabinowitz expressed what an honor it was to receive the award. “[I] will accept it on behalf of those alumni, students and friends of the University who have contributed to our achievements over the past several years that have led to an increased national recognition of Hofstra as a center of academic excellence,” he said in the release.
Rabinowitz’s selection for this specific award comes as no surprise, especially following the University’s hosting of the final presidential debate. He has also presided over the University through the establishment of a new medical school in partnership with one of the nation’s largest health systems – pending approvals and accreditations – as well as the creation of the Guru Nanak Interfaith Prize, the Peter S. Kalikow Center for the study of the American Presidency and the Educate ’08 event series, according to the release.
District II is the largest of the eight CASE districts, consists of colleges, universities, and educational associations from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Washington, West Virginia, Ontario, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
