Virginia Common Wealth’s (VCU) Brian Morris scored the only goal of the night 5:45 into the first overtime off a pass from Domonic Oduro from 16 yards out to sink the Pride men’s soccer team Friday.
The Pride (4-7-1) has been playing a streak of nationally ranked opponents, but has come up just short in most of the games. The Pride started with a 3-2 loss to Coastal Carolina, won the Clemson Invitational on a 3-0 win over the Tigers, tied William & Mary 1-1, and lost 2-0 to Old Dominion. This latest loss has set them back in the Colonial Athletic Association record stands at 0-2-1.
The Rams (8-3-1) on the other hand are playing very well, and snuck away with this win. VCU out shot the Pride, 16-8, and led in corner kicks, 8-5. Pride goalie Matthias Gumbrecht had six saves, while the Rams’ Saul Montero had three.
The Pride plays UNC Wilmington Sunday at noon to end its six-game road trip.
