HOGTIED AT VCU
The Pride fell to 0-5 all time at Virginia Commonwealth, falling to the Rams 87-64 last night in Richmond. The Pride led 26-19 in the first half, but VCU used a 19-3 run to close out the half and never looked back from there.
“The shots we had early on weren’t there,” associate head coach Tom Parrotta said. “We pressed.”
Adrian Uter had 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Pride, but that was the only bright spot as the team shot an alarmingly low 1 for 21 (five percent) from three-point range. The Pride also turned the ball over 22 times to only eight of the Rams. B.A. Walker led VCU with 22 points, while Nick George added 16.
AGUDIO AWARDED
Sophomore guard Antoine Agudio was named CAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, which was announced Monday by the league office. Agudio was dominant in three games last week (all Pride wins), as he averaged 19.0 points per game while shooting 57.1 percent from the floor (20 for 35). He scored 16 points in an impressive win over area rival St. John’s, 19 points in a win over non-conference opponent Binghamton and he matched a career-high with 22 points in a 79-65 win over Delaware on Saturday.
BADA BING
Despite looking a bit lethargic at times, the Pride kept Binghamton winless last Thursday night, 69-55. Agudio carried the team when Loren Stokes, Aurimas Kieza and Adrian Uter all picked up their second fouls within 30 seconds of each other in the first half, something that did not please head coach Tom Pecora.
“Those guys can’t get in early foul trouble,” he said. “They have to back off and not pick up silly fouls.”
