Atlantic 10 North
1. University of New Hampshire: 9-1 (6-1)
If New Hampshire hadn’t already proved it was the best team in the Atlantic 10, it added to that reputation by crushing Iona, 56-0, last Saturday. The Wildcats pounded Iona on the ground with 351 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Robert Simpson gained 122 yards and scored twice to lead the ground attack.
2. University of Massachusetts: 7-3 (6-1)
Massachusetts came into last week’s game versus Army with a 5-1 record in its last six games, but a 34-27 loss to the Black Knights on Saturday kept the Minutemen from making it six of seven. UMass couldn’t muster anything on offense as quarterback Liam Coen was picked off three times. The Minutemen will play the Pride this Saturday in their season finale.
3. University of Maine: 5-5 (3-4)
Quarterback Ron Whitcomb scored on a one-yard run on fourth down in overtime to give Maine a 27-24 OT win last week against Rhode Island. Whitcomb was the hero in overtime, but the main offensive contributor was running back Montell Owens, who gained 160 rushing yards and scored twice.
4. University of Rhode Island: 4-6 (2-5)
Colin Gallagher kicked a 30-yard field goal with just over a minute left to send the game into overtime against Maine last week. URI lost on Whitcomb’s score after the Rams settled for a field goal in their OT possession. Rhode Island’s last shot at a win will come this Saturday against Northeastern.
5. Northeastern University: 1-9 (1-6)
A Rob Zarrilli field goal in the fourth quarter kept Northeastern from snapping a five-game losing streak last week against the Pride. The Wildcats get one more shot at a win when they take on URI next week.
Atlantic 10 South
1. University of Richmond: 7-3 (6-1)
Richmond scored a big conference win last week with a 48-21 victory over Towson. The win all but clinched first place in the A-10 South, and the Spiders look to end the regular season with their sixth straight win when they host William & Mary on Saturday.
2. James Madison University: 6-4 (4-3)
In a very tight A-10 South division, James Madison jumped from fifth place to second place in only two weeks. The big jump in the standings was aided by last week’s 28-13 victory over Villanova. JMU hosts Towson on Saturday to close out the season.
3. Towson University: 6-4 (3-4)
In a big game against Richmond, Towson fell flat, 48-21. An early 7-0 lead on a Timothy Hightower 16-yard touchdown run was short lived as the Tigers were outscored 48-14 for the remainder of the game. Towson heads to James Madison on Saturday.
4. College of William & Mary: 5-5 (3-4)
Leading 21-14 heading into the final quarter, William & Mary gave up a safety to cut its lead to five points. The Tribe would eventually lose, 22-21, on an Aaron Love six-yard touchdown reception with just over four minutes left. William & Mary heads to division- leader Richmond to close out its season.
5. University of Delaware: 5-5 (2-5)
A strong fourth quarter propelled Delaware to a 22-21 victory last week over William & Mary. Omar Cuff had another stellar game with 100 yards rushing and 49 yards receiving. The Blue Hens look to end the season with a win over Villanova on Saturday.
6. Villanova University: 4-6 (2-5)
Villanova fell into last place of the A-10 South after falling to James Madison, 28-13, last week. Quarterback Frank Jankowski threw for 363 yards, but failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time since Sept. 10. The Wildcats end the season this Saturday, hosting Delaware.
