CAA AWARDS
Three members of the Pride were named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) first team at the awards banquet before the conference tournament. Sophomore forward Pemba Ramdoo, junior midfielder Doni-Melissa Jantzen and junior goalie Jessica Cowperthwait were all honored. Ramdoo led the Pride in goals, assists, and points and exceeded expectations after being named to the CAA-All Rookie Team last year. Ramdoo is also in the top 10 in six major categories in the CAA. Jantzen who was a third team All-American last year, was big on offense, contributing in 75 percent of the team’s goals. Jantzen posted four goals, four assists and 12 points in the regular season. Cowperthwait who has started every game for the Pride in the past three years, was named to the All-CAA first team for the second time in her career (also in 2003). “I didn’t think I would get it. It was a huge surprise,” Cowperthwait said.
In addition, freshman forward Charlia Warner was named to the CAA All-Rookie team.
ALL-TOURNAMENT
Although the Pride lost to Northeastern in the CAA Tournament semifinals, Warner and Leslie DeSimone were named to the CAA All-Tournament team. Warner led the Pride with three goals against Towson in the quarterfinals and finished tied for 10th in the conference in goals with nine, tied for eighth in goals per game and tied for fifth in game-winning goals with three. DeSimone, who was CAA Player of the Week last week, had an assist on what proved to be the game-winning goal against Towson. On Saturday against Northeastern, DeSimone had another assist on the goal scored by junior midfielder Kara McEneaney that helped the Pride tie the score at two. DeSimone finished third in the CAA in both shots (66) and shots per game (3.30/game). She proved to be one of the Pride’s most well-rounded players, finishing with seven goals six assists and a total of 20 points.
