MEN’S X-COUNTRYGeorge Mason University (GMU) hosted an invitational tournament last week and was embarrassed at its home track, finishing in sixth place. Delaware had a poor performance at the Paul Short Invitational Tournament, finishing in 26th place. The Blue Hens were led by P.J. Meany, who finished as high as 44th in the 8K race.
WOMEN’S X-COUNTRYThree Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) teams participated in the GMU Invitational: GMU, James Madison University (JMU) and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). VCU had the best finish, placing fourth. James Madison placed sixth and GMU finished last.FIELD HOCKEYNortheastern University junior forward Whitney Shean was named Co-CAA Player of the Week. Shean, who leads the conference in points (31) and goals (12), had her second consecutive four-goal week, which included game winners over Brown and the Pride. Northeastern (12-1) is on top of the division, while Old Dominion University is second in the conference. The Monarchs were led by the other Co-CAA Player of the Week, junior midfielder Dana Sensenig, who had a seven-point week, and dominated in all areas of the game.
MEN’S GOLFDrexel University golfer Keith Synder is undefeated in his first three tournaments, as his latest win at the Keenan Invitational propelled Drexel to tie St. Bonaventure University for the first place finish.MEN’S SOCCERTowson took over the top spot in the conference, led by CAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week Sebastian Haensel. The junior forward from Germany scored two goals in wins over JMU and VCU. The Tigers are currently riding an eight-game win streak.The CAA Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week was Georgia State University’s Dathan Knott, a freshman forward who scored the game winner against William & Mary and leads Georgia State with seven goals on the season.
WOMEN’S SOCCERThe second place VCU Rams had a great week, finishing an unblemished 3-0 with wins over Richmond, GMU and Towson. The Rams got great play from goalkeeper and CAA Player of the Week Lauren Hardison and CAA Co-Rookie of the Week, midfielder Megan Flanahan. Hardison allowed just one goal in three games and had a shut-out streak of 230 minutes. With shutouts against Richmond and GMU, she allowed her only goal on a corner kick against Towson.
MEN’S TENNISRodrigo Gili, a graduate assistant coach on the UNC-Wilmington tennis team was named interim head coach, as previous coach Allan Farfour accepted a private business position.
VOLLEYBALLTowson (18-3) had a four-game win streak snapped on Oct. 1 as the Pride defeated the Tigers in four games. The Tigers are being led by Kimberly Snider and last week’s CAA Player of the Week, Alison Essink. VCU’s Ana Luiza De Borja was CAA Rookie of the Week, leading in a win over JMU.
