After two days of voting and six appeals, the Student Government Association (SGA) has not elected a new president.
“No Presidential ticket has received a majority of the total votes cast,” a letter posted on the SGA office door by Fatima Hassan, elections commission chair, stated. “As a result, a run-off election will be held on Wednesday, April 27 and Thursday, April 28.”
According to the letter, Ben Solis and Olin Grant Parker received 426 votes, while Dave Leveille and Kathleen Hunker received 324 votes. Adam Doyno and his running mate, Samantha Rozakis, received the fewest number of votes and have been dropped from the ballot.
Bradley H. Smallberg, parliamentarian of Senate, who also sat on the Elections Commission, said more people voted this year than they did last year. “The turnout was incredible,” President Heather Gibbons said. “The Elections Commission heard all the cases and unfortunately there was no majority winner. So come out and vote.”
“The same rules that have governed the campaign for the last two weeks will continue to apply,” Hassan’s letter stated. “The 2004-2005 Senate will remain in office until a new president and vice president are elected.”
